Lanxang Lao-Thai Cuisine - On the corner of Commercial and Kuebler in Salem, OR

The food here is pretty good, but even more impressive is the size of the portions - a lot of food. Sometimes they get very busy and you have to wait a little bit, but it's a pleasant enough place so I don't mind waiting. The staff is nice enough. Not much for small talk though, so if that's important to you, be aware that you won't get it here.

There aren't a lot of Thai places at the south end of town. Tup Tim is very good, but the portions are smaller and a little more expensive. So if you want to really fill up on good Thai food, for the least amount of money, without having to drive downtown, this is your best bet of the two places I know of.

Original Thai BBQ - Right off 205 on Sunnyside Rd in Clackamas, OR

The food was really good and the atmosphere was relaxing. A lot of places just slop some stuff on a plate, but the presentation here was good. Additionally, the place was clean and the people were nice.

A lot of Thai places use too much spice, so much that you can't taste anything else. This place used a balanced amount of spices that drew out flavor instead of crowding everything else.

Toi on Sunset - On W Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles, CA

Not the best, most authentic Thai food ever, but it wasn't bad. What I liked about this place was that it's open very late and the atmosphere is great. The experience was more about the place than the food I guess. I would go back if I was out late with a fun group of people again, but if I was looking for really good Thai food during the day, I would probably go somewhere else.

Bangkok Duck and Chicken - Food Carts on 10th Ave. between Washington and Alder in Portland, OR

I’m not sure what to say about this place. The food was pretty good but I doubt I’ll go back. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really great either. The quality of the ingredients was good, the guy was nice, and the price was reasonable, but it just didn't do it for me. I would like to talk to someone else that has been here to see what they thought.

Sweet Basil - On the corner of NW Glisan and 17th Ave. in Portland, OR

This place has good Thai food. I liked the combo plate because it comes with a small salad and the Jasmine rice, and I thought it was kind of a lot of food. It’s nicely decorated inside and I got my food quickly. It wasn't anything that I’m dying to go back for, but I would happily eat here again if I was close by.

Nong's Khao Man Gai - Two locations: 10th and Alder or 4th and College in Portland, OR

This place has gotten some really good reviews so I decided to give it a try. I liked it because it is simple, inexpensive, and delicious. The cut of chicken was moist and tender, and the sauce and rice were really good. There are at least two carts that I know of, one on 10th and Alder and one on 4th and College, but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there are more around somewhere. This is definitely one I would recommend.

Camas Thai - On the corner of NE 5th Ave and Birch in Camas OR

Camas is a cute little Northwest town in Washington with a smell to it that is in no way cute. However, the smell doesn’t bother me as much as it apparently does my family and friends. I like watching the smoke stacks because they remind me of David Lynch’s TV show Twin Peaks. Whenever I’m passing through, I like to stop at Camas Thai. Their all-day specials are inexpensive, but still really delicious and I’m always full when I’m done. I recommend this place, and I will go back for sure.

Sawasdee - NW food carts (NW 19th & Quimby) in Portland, OR

A little crop of food carts popped up in a parking lot near my office, and this is one of them. I like Thai food, and this place was no exception. It wasn’t phenomenal, but it was still really good and I will go back. I would go back just because they cooked my tofu “right,” or at least the way I like it. It was reasonably priced (about as much as almost every Portland food cart) and quick. Hit it up if you are in the neighborhood.
